Welcome to the University of California, Santa Barbara Signal Compression Lab (SCL), located in Room 3166, Engr I.

Overview

Research at SCL encompasses a variety of practical applications including speech and audio compression, voice over IP, video coding, video and audio networking (wired, wireless, heterogeneous), pattern recognition, and content based retrieval from databases.

On the theoretical side, current research involves approaches founded on information theory and estimation theory to identify performance bounds and derive new algorithmic methodologies. Problem areas of interest include: rate-distortion theory, source-channel coding, scalable coding, distributed coding of correlated sources, pattern analysis and classification, bio-informatics, sensor networks.
