• Design:

  • Step1: Assume initial quantizer
  • Step2: Operate codec in closed-loop and generate training set of residuals
  • Step3: Optimize quantizer for these residuals
  • Step4: With new quantizer, go to step 2.

Another well-known approach and the most commonly-used is the closed-loop method. In this case, we improve over the open-loop method by using the open-loop quantizer in a real closed-loop system and generate a new training set of residuals. We can design a new quantizer and then repeat this iteration a number of times.
